Lindenwood University, located in St. Charles, MO, is the home of the Lions. With an enrollment of approximately 7,200 students, it is comprised of 55 facilities totaling more than 1.5 million square feet.

In 2019, Lindenwood University selected Facility Solutions Group (FSG) to help assist in a Master Planning effort for facilities planning initiatives with focus on mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems (MEP/FP).

Project Objectives

The purpose of the Master Plan was to provide a guide or framework on how to replace aging MEP/FP Systems across the University in a proactive (and not a reactive) way. The Master Plan would identify and prioritize replacement of MEP/FP systems that are at or nearing the end of their useful life over the course of the next 5-10 years.

The planning process began in 2019 and started with on-site visits to every facility with District Personnel. During the walkthroughs, the systems were reviewed and discussed to identify both obvious and not-so-obvious issues through feedback from University Personnel.

Once the facility surveys were concluded, the MEP/FP system deficiencies were sorted by priority in 3 phases over the next 10 years. Each deficiency also included a cost estimate to address the deficiency for budgetary planning purposes.

The final Master Planning document was presented to the University that is presently being used to identify and prioritize replacement MEP/FP systems across the University to this day and will continue to be updated for long term planning.

FSG has provided us the peace of mind through the master planning process of knowing exactly what our strengths and weaknesses are in our MEP/FP systems as we move forward. Their detailed planning helps us know multiple years out what our priorities need to be and therefore what our budget needs to look like. Since we are working 3 to 5 years ahead we are not surprised by the scope or the cost. We rely on FSG to make sure we have reliable and efficient MEP/FP systems providing our staff and students the most comfortable spaces possible.
